"Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery."
Hebrews 13:4 (NLT)
The first social institution God ordained was marriage. It began when God brought Eve to Adam. Unfortunately, families thereafter multiplied in a different world than the first marriage, a sin-cursed world. Marriages and families have been under attack ever since because of the sinfulness of our flesh, the world and the devil.
Today, in this country, we continue dishonoring marriage and see a rise in the destruction of the family by popularizing fornication, adultery, and divorce. We have even redefined marriage in this country.
The writer of Hebrews commanded believers to give honor to marriage. The word honor means to esteem or to value as precious. It was through the preciousness of marriage that God was “seeking a godly offspring” or family, according to Malachi 2:15.
Despite what the world says and does, let us declare words of “love, joy, peace and long suffering…” over marriages and families.
Ask God to search our hearts and reveal any selfishness, conceit, and pride in us that hinders loving relationships in our marriages and families.
Pray that husbands learn to love their wives as Christ loves the church, wives respect their husbands, and parents train their children in the way they should go.
