"And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you."
The ULTIMATE test of love: How do you respond when people hurt you? Do you want to seek revenge or want to get even? Do you hold onto grudges and resentments? What does the Word of God teach us about forgiving people who have wronged us? The word “forgive” is used 56 times in the King James Version Bible (and even more in other Bible translations), that’s a lot about forgiveness!
Forgive others as our heavenly Father has forgiven us.
Colossians 3:13 (NLT): Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.
Forgiveness is limitless.
Matthew 18:21-22 (NKJV): Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven."
Love your enemies.
Luke 6:27-28 (NIV): But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
If we do not forgive people our Father will not forgive our trespasses.
Matthew 6:14-15 (NKJV): For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
You may be asking yourself as I did, how do I do this, Lord? I just can’t. But YES, we can! Don’t try to forgive in your own power. Recognize and accept God’s forgiveness of you and ask the Helper, the Holy Spirit, to give you the strength and power to forgive others. Remember: The Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the Living God, lives in you and me—He will help us to forgive in all types of situations. You will find peace and rest for your souls.
"His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue."
2 Peter 1:3
Let forgiveness become an everyday practice.
Matthew 6: 9-13, The Lord’s Prayer
Bless the Lord and thank Him, He who forgives ALL your sins.
