“I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior.”
1 Timothy 2:1-3 (NLT)
This is saying that we need to pray for our kings (leaders) and all who are in authority. Notice it doesn’t just say to pray for the leaders that we are in agreement with, or even just the righteous ones, it says to pray for “all” who are in authority. Whether or not we agree with the leaders in our country, city, or church, we are called to lift them up in prayer. Why? Because “This is good and pleases God our Savior.”
How do we pray for the leaders in our country? Well, in the second verse of the passage above, it says to pray “this way” for our leaders. This refers to the previous verse where it says, “Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them.” If you pray these three things over the leaders in our country, not only will it please our Savior, but it will certainly make a difference in this nation.
