"So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion...And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done." (Genesis 1:27-2:2)
A typical week for man looks like this: work for six days and then rest on the seventh, but did you notice how God started things off for man from the beginning? Man was created on the sixth day and given a huge job assignment. However, instead of telling him to get to work, God had him rest first! Adam's first full day of life was the Sabbath - a day of rest.
It is as if God is saying, "I know you have a lot to do, let's spend some time together first."
The most productive time in our week is not when we are working hard to get things done. Rather, it is when we take time to "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness..." (Matt. 6:33) Of course, we can do this weekly, but I would encourage you to give God the first part of your day as well. After you are all rested up and filled with the presence of God, then, get to work!
